Well before the book’s release, Home Before Dark by Riley Sager was picked up by Sony Pictures for a potential film / movie / tv series adaptation. Here’s what we know so far:
What’s it about? What’s the plot?
In Home Before Dark, a woman, Maggie Holt, has inherited a mansion from her late father, Ewan. 25 years ago, Ewan wrote a non-fictional bestselling novel called House of Horrors about the Holt family’s experiences living in the house he claims was haunted. They were there for 20 days before they fled in terror.
Maggie has no recollection of that time, but she has always regarded the book as being full of lies. Against her father’s wishes, Maggie goes back to the house to uncover the truth about what really happened in those twenty fateful and horrific days.

What format will it be? Will the Home Before Dark adaptation be a Movie or a Series?
It’s currently unknown what the planned format is. (My guess is that it’ll be a movie, but that’s an assumption that is mostly based on the fact that it’s Sony Pictures and Shawn Levy’s producing history, as opposed to any official statements.)
Who’s behind it?
Sony Pictures has picked up the rights to the book and will be developing this project with Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps attached to produce it. 21 Laps has a bunch of projects going on, so it may be a while before this one sees the light of day, if ever.
What’s the status of the Home Before Dark adaptation?
