Book lovers have been hoping for an adaptation of The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah for a long time, and it seems it’s finally on the horizon. Here’s what we know about The Nightingale movie adaptation so far:

What’s it about? What’s the plot?

The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah is a World War II drama about two sisters, Isabelle and Vianne, who are struggling to survive in German-occupied France. It’s a story about the French Resistance in WWII.

The Nightingale was released in 2015 and has since sold over 3.5 million copies in the United States, as well as being published in 45 other languages.

What format will it be? Will The Nightingale adaptation be a Movie or a Series?

It’s planned as a feature movie.

Who’s behind it?

Sony owns the film rights to The Nightingale and it’s being developed under TriStar Pictures. Melanie Laurent is attached to direct the movie adaptation.

What’s the status of The Nightingale adaptation?

The adaptation has been in the works for some time. It was originally given a 2020 release date, but that’s been pushed to 2021 due to coronavirus-relate changes. The current release date is December 21, 2021.

As of July 2020, the movie is still listed as being in pre-production, which is the phase that movies are in prior to commencing filming. The film had just gotten a release date (now pushed to 2021) in March 4, 2020 when Sony halted filming on all projects ten days later due to COVID.

Who’s in the cast?

Real-life sisters Dakota and Elle Fanning will lead the cast, starring as sisters Isabelle and Vianne.
