What’s it about? What’s the plot?
In the Children of Blood and Bone, Zelie is a diviner, a maji child. The maji are clans of people who once had magic powers that have since disappeared from the kingdom of Orisha. In one brutual night many years ago, the maji were all eradicated from Orisha by King Saran who fears their powers.
An encounter with Amari, princess of Orisha, leads to the one opportunity to reawaken magic in these lands. Zelie and Amari must embark on a treacherous journey to restore those powers.

What format will it be? Will the Children of Blood and Bone adaptation be a Movie or a Series?
It’s planned as a feature film, intended to be the first of a film trilogy.
Who’s behind it?
The adaptation is slated to be produced by LucasFilm, a key Disney production studio, hinting at the project’s importance and priority within the Disney/Fox porfolio. Kathy Kennedy, president of LucasFilm, will produce, along with the original producers who were working on the project before LucasFilm began spearheading the effort.
Fox 2000 originally acquired the film rights to the Children of Blood and Bone in 2017, about a year prior to the book’s release. It was a in a splashy deal, rumored to be in the seven figures, made especially notable considering that this was Adeyemi’s debut novel. The rights then shifted to Disney as part of Disney’s acquisition of Fox 2000 in March 2019.
Kay Oyegun, a writer from the show This is Us, will be adapting the book into a script for Children of Blood and Bone. Rick Famuyiwa is attached to direct.
