What’s it about? What’s the plot?
Artemis by Andy Weir is a science fiction novel set on the moon about Jazz, “a porter and part-time smuggler in the lunar city of Artemis. Trying to make a little extra money, she accepts a less than legal job but ends up involved in a much bigger crime” (from IMDB).
Artemis was published in November 2017, following the huge success of his initially self-published book The Martian (2011). The movie adaptation of The Martian (2015) received seven Oscar nominations.
What format will it be? Will the Artemis adaptation be a Movie or a Series?
It’s planned as a feature movie.
Who’s behind it?
Fox and New Regency preemptively acquired the movie rights to Artemis prior to the book’s release. Since then, there’s been slow, but steady progress on the project.
In 2017, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller signed on to develop and direct the Artemis adaption. Lord and Miller are a well-known filmmaking duo. The directed and wrote Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009) and The Lego Movie (2014). They also directed 21 Jump Street (2012) and produced Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018).
In July 2018, Geneva Robertson-Dworet signed on to write the script for the Artemis adaptation. She previously wrote the screenplay for Marvel’s Captain Marvel (2019).
What’s the status of the Artemis adaptation?
The adaptation is currently in development at Fox, with a director and scriptwriter attached.
