Jane Austen’s Persuasion is getting a new adaptation by Netflix. So, for all those people who love Jane Austen adaptations (like me!), here’s what we know about the upcoming Persuasion movie adaptation from Netflix:
What’s it about? What’s the plot?
Persuasion was Jane Austen’s final novel, published in 1817.
The story revolves around twenty-seven-year-old Anne Elliot who broke off an an engagement to a naval officer, Frederick Wentworth, eight years prior after being convinced he was unworthy of her. However, for Anne, the breakup resulted in a deep and long-lasting regret.
When later Wentworth returns from sea a rich and successful captain, he finds Anne’s family on the brink of financial ruin and his own sister a tenant in Kellynch Hall, the Elliot estate. All the tension of the novel revolves around one question: Will Anne and Wentworth be reunited in their love?
What format will it be? Will the Nextflix Persuasion adaptation be a Movie or a Series?
It’s planned as a feature movie, to be released on Netflix.

The series is being developed by MRC Film (Knives Out) and Netflix, to be aired on Netflix. Carrie Cracknell is directing.

The adaptation is currently filming as of May 2021.
Who’s in the cast?
Dakota Johnson will star as protagonist Anne Elliot. The male lead will be played by Cosmo Jarvis (as Captain Frederick Wentworth).
The cast also includes other notable names such as Richard E. Grant, Henry Golding and Suki Waterhouse.
